Summer Time Goals

Wasn’t it just May? Where did June go? It came and went so fast; I did not have a chance to post about my goals or do my monthly check-in. Many of you have commented that you find these helpful and motivating, so I apologize for not posting.

I am going to do something a bit different this month. Instead of individual goals for July and August, I will combine the two and set my goals for summer. These two months go by so fast, and it makes sense to combine them.

Below is what I committed to in May and how I did.

Blog

I will build on what I did or did no do in April. Moving forward, I think four blog posts a month will be the norm. I will chip away at my courses and will try to do ONE session of SEO a month. I am not letting go of this goal; I am trying to make it attainable.- My approach worked. By breaking down the SEO goal even further, I was able to stay on track.

Personal

  • I will build off my 2.5lb weight loss and aim for 2-5lbs this month.-I am down 7lbs!
  • Continue to move my body 30 mins a day.-DONE
  • All my summer races were canceled, but I plan to run them virtually.-3 virtual races were done and more to come.
  • Research vacation options for summer to replace our canceled Canadian Rockies trip.-Two new vacations planned.

Household

  • Purge Nicholas’s room.-Done
  • Begin the basement (scrapbook room) project.-NOPE
  • Clean out my garden boxes and start my veggie garden.-DONE

Wow, not bad! I would say May was a huge success! Except for the scrapbook room, I did everything I set out to accomplish. I think the scrapbook room project will wait until the winter months. With the beautiful weather here, I plan to be outside as much as possible.

Goals for July & August

Blog

Continue to grow my social media accounts, new course work 2-3 times a week, including SEO content and 8 new blog posts.

Time Management

Implement a new weekday schedule. I am going to start time blocking. Time blocking is a type of time management that has you divide your day into blocks of time. Each block is dedicated to accomplishing a specific task.

Personal

  • Finish my 2019 scrapbooks.- This will be a heavy lift, but I am determined!
  • Read 6 books.
  • Explore 6-10 state parks in Massachusetts.
  • Get back to date night.
  • Spend more time outside.

Health & Fitness

  • Build off the 7lbs loss and lose another 10lbs.
  • Minimum of 10,000 steps a day.
  • Consistently strength train.
  • Continue training for fall races.

I am keeping it simple. I want to enjoy the summer and will hold off on the bigger household projects until the colder weather.

How about you? What are your summer goals?

Looks like you are in for a busy month! My goals changed in March, and my vision board did too… It just says stay positive and share love and happiness.. Its been a truly different year!

Where did the summer go? I’m so surprised by how fast June went, and I’m stuck standing somewhere around May 19th. I am going to try and visit some friends from a safe distance to feel and see something new!

Thanks for sharing your plan and successes. its always good to have a plan and keep ourselves focused. And I love “Be stubborn about your goals and flexible with your methods.” How true. Appreciate the nudge.

  4. Kate | 6th Jul 20

It’s so inspiring to see other people’s goals and their successes. Thanks for sharing. I need to sit down and really consider my summer goals and this has given me the push to do it.

It’s definitely easier to do things like clean and organize scrapbook rooms in the winter months. My basement is waiting for that. I didn’t set goals this summer other than a running to-do list. I am just slowly letting the larger goals evolve. However, I’ve gotten a lot done — especially outdoor projects, like a privacy fence, a garden, and a compost bin! Congrats on meeting your goals and best wishes for July and August!

Thanks for reminding us about goals. Despite challenging times it is great to have your sights on things you want to achieve.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Yes, it helps us keep busy and our minds off of the chaos!

  7. Alexis | 6th Jul 20

Goal setting is very important for growth in anything! My goals are to continue working on my blog and build traffic and momentum while I have time off at home during COVID.

  8. Debbie | 6th Jul 20

Lots of progress and good future goals. I always enjoy you sharing this.

  9. Kristin | 6th Jul 20

I like how you break things down into easier-to-manage, bite-sized chunks. I have done that at times in my life, and you are inspiring me to get back to that.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Do it! It really helps get things accomplished.

  10. Laura Lee | 6th Jul 20

I agree. Summer is going by way too quickly without all the summertime fun. I have a list of long-term goals too, that I’m trying to get through, but I only have three daily goals so that I can keep it simple and feel successful.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

That is great. I try to keep mine to 3 a day as well. Sometimes with work, that gets thrown out the window. LOL.

  11. Jen | 6th Jul 20

I can definitely relate! I love how you break things down, really gives me some ideas as I have trouble managing my goals. Thanks!

I think being flexible in life is the key to most happiness! LOL My husband knows I have a plan a, b and c! With a hidden plan d! Congrats on your accomplishments!

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

LOL! Yes, my husband says that I always have a plan and if I don’t something is very wrong.

One of the side-effects of both of us losing our jobs due to Coronavirus is we have been reevaluating our lifestyle. We are using this extended downtime to explore our options to be able to generate income without relying on a “job”. We are excited about the freedom we are working toward. Since we started actually planning the change, we have felt an uplift to the malaise that we have been experiencing from our inability to control what is happening around us.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

First, I am sorry about the loss of jobs. That is never a fun thing to go through. However, I am happy to hear you are rebounding and looking at other potential sources of income. Best of luck with that.

  14. Bonnie | 6th Jul 20

I started time blocking just before Covid hit and it went out the window with the kids home. I may modify it in case the situation continues into the fall so include helping with their school work. It was working well before so maybe I can make it work in a modified version going forward.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Yes, once school starts up again, I will readjust. Throwing in my fulltime job messes things up from time to time too.

  15. Lori | 6th Jul 20

Looks like you are doing a great job at fulfilling your goals. I find it easier as well to break down my goals for the month. It’s a great tactic. Keep up the good work and I will try to be just as successful at my goals as you have been with yours. Have a great summer

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

      Thank you. Same to you!

  16. Lisa Manderino | 6th Jul 20

It is so good to set goals and work to accomplish things for sure!

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

It feels great to check things off the box.

  17. Alyssa | 6th Jul 20

Sounds like you’ve been a busy lady! Thank you for sharing your goals keep the good good momentum going!

  18. Leeandra | 6th Jul 20

great goals! I need to take some time and write mines out.

  19. Alice | 6th Jul 20

I started to do this while I was off work with a shoulder injury last week. I wrote my household goals, my blog goals, and other. I also wrote down books I want to read. I even made a schedule as I work 2nd shift full time right now.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Great job! Did you get a lot accomplished?

  20. Jane | 6th Jul 20

You really inspire us Heather!👏🏼 You may not be able to accomplish all your goals but you don’t lose sight of it.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

      Awww… you are very sweet.

  21. Rachel | 6th Jul 20

I can relate to this! You have had a busy month! Keep reaching for your goals and watch out for loads of growth in the future

  22. Sara | 6th Jul 20

I love seeing what goals others are working towards. It helps push me to work on mine, and sometimes it gives me new ideas of goals to work toward too.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Awesome! Good luck with your goals.

  23. Danielle Ardizzone | 6th Jul 20

It’s so much better to set realistic goals, rather than ones that are too lofty and unattainable.

  24. Tiffany | 6th Jul 20

I have had a few goals and knocked out many of them. Actually had to set up a home office (squeezed it into my bedroom!) and then cleaned my craft closet. HUGE accomplishment. I need to make my goals slightly smaller so I can actually make some progress!

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Yes, the key is to make them attainable.

  25. Misty | 6th Jul 20

My ultimate goal is just to love myself for who I am and where I am in life. I feel like all of us put ourselves down so much. I’m trying to focus on the positives and not be so hard on myself all of the time, including when I don’t get everything done that I want!

  26. Barbara | 7th Jul 20

I like how you organize your goals! It must be so nice to have the whole day to block for your projects! I get to “block” 2 hours after everyone goes to bed…It’s a challenge!

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

Well, 9 of those hours is my full-time job as an attorney.

  27. Suzan | It's My Sustainable Life | 7th Jul 20

Great job keeping up with the goals and being flexible to changing them when necessary!

  28. Sandi | 7th Jul 20

I love time blocking, it makes me so much more efficient. Good luck with your goals.

  29. Alexis Farmer | 7th Jul 20

You’ve got some awesome goals! Hope you achieve as many as possible 😊

  30. Kendra | 7th Jul 20

Great job, Heather! It’s been a challenge for so many of us, so being able to check some things off and set new goals is a great accomplishment! Well Done!

  31. Lisa Shivel | 8th Jul 20

Summer is flying by. Thank you for the reminder on setting goals. We need to reevaluate ours.

  32. Eva Keller | 8th Jul 20

Great way to plan out your goals! We always break up our goals into different categories too like travel, health/wellness, blog/money.

    • Heather | 9th Jul 20

I find it much easier to attain the goals this way.

  33. Cindy | 12th Jul 20

    You really nailed the goals!

Mine for the summer months include getting the backyard garden in to excellent shape – done. Complete the Travel Blogging Course – working intensively it. Do a travel post every Friday – yes. Take one day trip a month – did June, July and August are scheduled. Keep growing social media – yep. Increase sponsored posts – yes!

    • Heather | 12th Jul 20

All awesome goals! I love it. I am also working on that course. It takes me forever to get through them.

  34. Annette | 13th Jul 20

I think setting “summer” goals is what I do each May. This helps me to focus on breaking down larger goals into monthly goals. Great post!! However, I did see some things I need to ADD to my list from your list. LOL
